An interview with my friend Mike Madrid
On the surface, not many people would guess Mike Madrid is my friend. He worked in the Bush administration, and he’s spent his whole career doing political analysis.
But Mike is an expert in Latino politics, and Tejano politics specifically. So, last week, I joined him on his show, The Great Transformation, to talk about how we’ve put TX-15 in play for Democrats.

Mike told me, “You are how Democrats win Texas. There’s no way they can win Texas without you.”
I’m not sure I’m that special, but I understand what he’s getting at. When I started this campaign for Congress, I knew I’d throw out the old playbook and do my own thing.
I went to quinceañeras and BBQs. I got in front of 29,000 voters. I went to towns that hadn’t seen a Democrat show up in years.
It might have been crazy, but with four straight polls showing me in the lead, it’s working.
Tejano culture isn’t red or blue. We work hard, we’re honest, and we want to preserve the way we grew up. We’re also the first people to show up for our community. We don’t always have a lot to give, but we give everything we can.
I’m not just campaigning to win an election. I’m trying to build something that lasts. Tejanos have a real opportunity, maybe for the first time in a long time, to get both parties’ attention.
Muchas gracias,
