The Cook Political Report is calling us a Toss Up
The Cook Political Report recently moved our race from Leans Republican to Toss Up.
Trump won this South Texas district by 18 points. If we win in a couple weeks, we will pull off the biggest upset in the country and hand Democrats the majority in Congress.
A little over a year ago, I announced I was retiring from 30 years as a Tejano musician to run for Congress. My Republican opponent didn’t take me seriously.
She said: stick to quinceañeras.
Now, I have a feeling she’s changed her tune.
I did go to quinceañeras, and to barbecues, ranch halls, and even door-to-door to show everybody in our community this isn’t a joke to me. South Texas deserves leadership that sees us and fights for us, not just a rubber stamp for the agenda of Trump or whoever’s running the show in Washington.
All these months later, this seat is officially one of the most competitive and expensive battlegrounds in the 2026 elections.
That means we have to work harder than ever to break through.
Monica De La Cruz had a private meeting with Trump a while back. Suddenly, he’s doling out millions of dollars to prop her up in ads. He even put out a video endorsing her and slamming me.
Look, I’ve never had as much money as my opponents. I’ve made up for it by outworking them.
Let’s do it. Vamos.
